Чашка насаджується на стержень на рівні рослин і утримується за рахунок конічної форми внутрішньої поверхні. Шкідники приманюються жовтим кольором чашки і потрапляють у прозору рідину з додаванням невеликої кількості миючого засобу, що зменшує поверхневий натяг, запобігаючи їх втечі. Ранньою весною, коли вода може замерзати, рекомендується використовувати спеціальну зимову рідину для омивання стекол автомобілів.
